Marine Electrical Engineering Department - Jordan Academy for Maritime Studies

Overview

The Department of Marine Electrical Engineering was established in May 2017 and is recognized as one of the key specialized departments within the maritime education and training system. The Department integrates electrical engineering principles with their advanced applications in the maritime environment, providing comprehensive coverage of electrical power generation, distribution, management and protection, electrical and electronic systems, and modern marine control and automation systems.

As part of its academic and professional scope, the Department offers the Electro-Technical Officer (ETO) program in accordance with the requirements of STCW Regulation III/6. The ETO Certificate is a specialized officer certification within the maritime sector, introduced in response to the increasing reliance on electrical, electronic, control, and automation systems aboard modern ships. The Department is responsible for educating and qualifying maritime personnel to operate, maintain, and inspect electrical and electronic systems, as well as control and automation systems on board ships, with a strong emphasis on safety requirements, operational competence, and internationally recognized maritime standards.

In addition to its academic responsibilities, the Department also plays an active role in continuous professional development through the design and delivery of a wide range of specialized training courses that keep pace with the rapid advancement of maritime technology. In doing so, the Department contributes to preparing maritime professionals capable of working with the advanced electrical and technological systems that form the backbone of modern ships.

The Department is supported by a qualified academic and training team holding Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees, complemented by specialized maritime and field experience. This ensures a strong integration of academic and engineering knowledge with practical, hands-on experience in the maritime environment, enabling the Department to provide education and training that are directly aligned with the actual requirements of shipboard operations and the wider maritime industry.

I have pleasure to welcome you to Marine Electrical Engineering Dept. where we make our utmost efforts and experiences to achieve our set goals represented in highly qualified and highly skilled graduates.

In the Dept. we qualify our graduates to obtain competency certificates at the operational level (Electrical Technical Officer “ETO”) to work on commercial vessels in engine rooms and maintenance.
