Course Description
General design: various ship construction plans, measurement and terminology, structural terminology, principal parts of a ship, structural components of the ship plan, ship building: concept of prefabrication, forming of steel, electric welding, faults of weld, stresses: longitudinal and transverse, framing system: longitudinal, transverse and combined, construction of double bottoms: floors, bilges, wells, sounding and air pipes, structure at upper weather decks: sheer strake, stringer plant, bulwark, beams, knees and frames, hatch openings and coamings, hatch covers, stern structure: types, stern tube, propeller and shaft, rudders: balanced and semi-balanced, bulkhead; construction and strengthening, pumping arrangements: bilge, ballast, general purpose. Corrosion: propeller area, aluminum superstructure, inserts gas system.
